9 czerwca 2020Its easy on approach and forgiving on the landing. It also doesnt punish you in inconsistent end of the day snow like some stiff boards do. The Jones Mountain Twins base is pretty fast and the board is pretty damp. We try to get as many images of the YES Standard, but forgive us if they're not all there. Its nothing like its bigger brother theJones Flagshipor its cousin theYes Big Citybut it does a good job with most speed. I've had the typo for 3 seasons now. It powers over chunder and tracked up snow pretty well if you size it right for your boots. Jibbing: Its a little on the stiff side for jibbing but you can make it happen. There isnt a ton of camber underfoot but there is enough to give you some spring out of the turn. The Twin's shape features blunt tips for reduced swing weight, Traction Tech edges . One thing we would like to see is a little more pop through a little more camber or some other tech that can help this snap harder. Switch: So even though the tail has less volumeit doesnt until after the effective edge so its a twin between the feet. However, the sidecut mellows out over the inserts so it tracks really well. 156: 10.-11 Size: 153 In This Review and 156 in Past Reviews. The YES Standard does this better than most all-mountain boards because of this setback and the reduced volume in the tail. Its now just barely a directional twin but a much better All Mountain Ride. It adopted the Middle Bite tech from the Yes Jackpot, got a blunt nose/tail, changed the waist width sizing and considerably narrowed the reference stance. Boots: Burton Fiend LTD We didn't ride 2020 Jones Mountain Twin but other than a change to a more eco-friendly resin and a slightly updated core it's the same ride as before. Update 2023: The Jones Mountain Twin hasnt changed since 2021 so this review still stands. I demo'd the Mountain Twin last year (Christmas 2013) and bought it because I liked the "old school" straight camber that allowed for nicely carved turns with a little pop coming out of the turns. The YES Optimistic was probably the only other Directional Twin shape that did better in powder but that was only because it had a bigger set back. I am in between the 153 and 156 though. Still the ride of the board feels a little more aggressive than its flex. On Snow Feel/Ability Level/Skidded Turns: This hybrid camber profile called Camrock has a nice balance between rocker and camber that gives you stability underfoot in all conditions and is very forgiving for those that skid your turns often or just want a more forgiving ride when you get off your game. It does everything well but nothing memorably well. Speed: The Jones Mountain Twin 2014-2013 is great at almost any speed. The 2018 Yes Standard had a major overhaul. If you do you get a 3.5 difference between nose and tail or a 1.75 set back from the center of the board. The board has more camber and only a little bit of early rise rocker in the tip/tail. Many boards personalities change acording to the conditions but the Jones Mountain Twin does not and thats hard to do in this hybrid world of snowboards. Great pop really digs in for carving groomers. Its got a great stable feel to it and itsgot a camber feel underfoot that doesnt catch. When it comes to jumps you would think it wouldnt track well into them with this deeper sidecut between the bindings. Here are some ideal US boot sizes for the YES Standard. The only issue here is the Slam back inserts require a full size disc binding. That makes it more aggressive all mountain if you can get a little more set back and directional. Its not going to carve like a camber board but its pretty close. Its fun on all radius turns and it really fit our feet well. With the stance set all the way back it can be a pretty good very easy floating powder board. The 2013 Base is one of the fastest bases we came across and if well waxed can glide through almost any extended flat area without issue. This is great for tracking in a stable easy way to a natural feature on the mountain or a kicker in the park when you want to get air because it doesnt feel like the board is asking you to turn. Last year it already had more camber than many of the YES boards and this year it seems like it has even more camber than before. They narrowed the stance width considerably. The turning is like butter, the speed isnt like the capita and about the same as the Process if not a little faster. The stiffness was right between the burton and the capita but it wasn't as stiff as I expected it to be based on the websites 7/10 rating. After being a dedicated Custom camber fan forever I decided to delve into the new world of cam/rock. Final verdict. I think the extra volume in the nose will help though but Im not sure how much. Size: 157 So its pretty versatile and does a better job of applying the very bold name of all mountain to this board. Speed: Its a pretty fast board and likes to bomb for sure. This review has been re-done to reflect how it sits in 2022. The traction tech changed from 2.0 to 3.0. Uneven Terrain: With a little extra work it can weave in and out through bumps but its not a specialist here. It inspires confidence in harder conditions and acts just like a regular old school side cut in soft snow which means it doesnt grip. Regardless of whether I was high-tailing down a groomer, playing in the park, gliding through trees, or plowing powder it was begging for more. Great board. Set-Up: 21, 21.5, 22 Wide. Great set back on board for powder. The rubbery personality of the YES Standard is good for creating a nice protection layer for all that is happening underfoot when you ride. There is little to no chatter when you pick up speed either. 154: 8-9 The only thing that keeps it from being excellent is the flex. **For 2020 & 2021 the YES Ghost now has Slamback Inserts as well so it isnt as far behind as the standard in powder this year. I think that is what I like about Yes and their sister companies with their hybrid camber tech. It does have a unique reverse flex pattern meaning stiffer tips and softer between the feet. The highest score was 92.1/100. The blunted tip/tail is great for a little extra float than the 2017 model. Now this is just a comparison between my board from last year and my board from this year. We were impressed with its ability to flex when you need it on the tip/tail. We all love the more pronounced camber upgrade along with the set back of -20mm. Well not Jimbos but he would love the mid/wide 156w. Then with a set back of -20mm its kind of a stretch for Jones to call this a twin. 21 front -6 back, 15 front -15 back. Sizing: The sweet spot on the 156 seems like its closer to a size 10-11 boot. Then it gets a bump width-wise at 156-159 and it makes it a great board for those 10-12 boots. However if you are a strong technical pipe rider you will prefer the extra pop from the standard that will help you boost more. This is about as good as you can get for a directional twin. It doesnt have the spring to the Ghost on an ollie but it sure does butter easier. Switch: Really good switch and just a little shy of a true twin. The board is made from SWS in Dubai instead of GST in Austria. On groomers it acts like a twin on edge but in powder this floats more like a directional board. I havent ridden the Standard in powder but did with the Yes Optimistic 2015 and it had a really easy float. Flex: Pretty stiff but still lively and dynamic. Turn Ons/Swipe Right: Stable, tracks well into jumps, fast base, turns easier in soft snow. Flex: Feels pretty medium/stiff bordering on stiff. Usually they excel in one condition but falter in another but not this ride. The stance this year is centered where last year it had a -10mm set back. With a competitive price and up-to-date technology, this board is a strong top contender for every all-mountain/freestyle board out there. Days: 3+ If you are driving hard wall to wall and going bigger its all about the Ghost but this is great for most. Just took my 2015 Mountain Twin out for a breaking in yesterday. Rails and Jibbing You can hit rails and go through the jib park but there are many better boards out there than the Jones Mountain Twin. The camber profile is more like the early YES boards 10 years ago when it didnt go past the inserts. Jumps: Pretty good pop here. 15 front -15 back and centered. Carving was fun on the old jones but the added camber of the 2013 and 2014 Jones makes it much more fun to carve and its one of its better qualities. It's been a slow start to the snow season, but we had 10 fresh inches of powder, so I put it through the test. If I can only take one board on a road trip this would be it. Powder: So if you need full-size disc bindings like from NOW, Jones, Burton Re:Flex, Some Union Bindings like the Atlas and Force and others to make this work on the slamback inserts for setting it back in powder. Jumps: There is good pop and we found it pretty easy to generate our own air. On Snow Feel: Not as catchy as it use to be after the transition from mostly camber to hybrid rocker. Precious Good Ride dollars were spent to buy this and review it. Its still not bad for a mostly camber mostly twin ride but its more for the expert rider use to camber than those use to easy floating hybrid shapes. Nothing out of the ordinary but it can ollie rather well. Hard to say but there is still a mellow disruption in the sidecut similar to the older model. It felt like a little bit of work to make quick edge to edge turns but you are working harder than you would with the older version. We dont feel its a 7 out of 10 but more like a 5 out of 10. The merc felt really hard to turn and was stiffer overall. It is a pretty stiff board both torsionally and tip to tail, giving it stability but also limiting feedback, feel, and fun. Jumps: It pops really well on snow for an ollie and it also can launch off kickers of any size. Its a little bit chattery in the tip and tail when you are bombing but you get use to it pretty quick. Jibbing: You can jib with the Standard but if thats your thing go with the Jackpot. Jibs Probably one of the only areas where it doesnt do very well. Jones Mountain Twin Snowboard - 2022/2023. Conditions: Really good Sierra snow with ony a few hard patches. If your stance corresponds to the set back inserts then you can get a little more directional float. Its only a touch weird buttering on the tail compared to the nose but most will really enjoy this board when the stance is centered on the 5 x 2 per binding inserts. Especially those that ride in harder snow. Then I went to the burton process and loved it, it was easy to ride and the camber profile was great. Jones Mountain Twin vs. Capita Mercury - Which Should You Ride? Wed say this is closer to the average side of good. The mid-bite technology of the YES Standard provides close to excellent grip but also provides quicker turn initiation than you would think for this width over the bindings. So the 2018 review still stands and the changes weren't big enough to tax Jones to borrow the board again. I have this years 156 jones mountain twin wide and its amazing. Not a great hard turner/carver. On Snow Feel: The personality of the board never changes from powder to ice or from peak to jib park. Its a board you can lap the park with the Yes Standard all day. Also if there are any contradictions between the video review and written, go with whats said in the written review. Not a lot but a little. Buttering: Such a great board for buttering. The YES Standard has a directional volume twin shape that acts pretty much like a true twin when on reference stance. The Jones Twin is pretty loose and playful but when you want to step it up and make some more directional groomer riding it does a great job. It also made the Jones Mountain Twin and Ultra Mountain Twin feel like a fast turner and that's not a fast turning . If you keep the edges sharp the Mountain Twin would be a great dedicated pipe board.
